Graduating designers showcased their final collections this week with some unusual, innovative styles at the Zenith Curtin Fashion Show.
With 21 designers, the inaugural event standouts were Tia Tokic with her quirky and unorthodox statement of a collection, Bacterium, and the renegading collection of Mallory Maduka-Ike, Chrysalis.
These top designers were co-awarded the Curtin Designer Fashion Award and Tokic was the sole gong getter for the Curtin Academic Excellence Award.
Creative Director of Songy Knox Photography, Songy Knox herself, gave a hilarious speech about the pain and agony that is coming to the designers awarded the Songy Known Collection Look Book Award who will be mentored by Knox next year.
“Some [designers] didn’t need my help and [the award] needed to go to someone who would benefit to work with me, a chastising, horrible woman to work for.”
The award was given to two designers, Sheona Cowden and Jade Christie.
Amie Churak gave a stunning collection, Fragmented Reality, with silks and took out the Sericin Silk Award for her work with laser cutting on silk materials.
Choo said the standard was impressive and so high with designs that are ‘very unusual and inspiring’ in comparison to other college students.
