Perth jewellery label Hello Mr Badger has been popping up around Perth, with intricate vintage-inspired pieces making its last appearance at the Summer Night Markets last weekend.
For Hello Mr Rodger Designer Aimee Mitchell, the sole member of her “weeny company of one”, her work is deeply sentimental as her inspiration comes from her grandfather who was a watchmaker in London.
Hello Mr Badger offers jewellery lovers of Perth a sentiment to the label that you can appreciate through its unique style.
The prominent feature across the entire Hello Mr Badger range is the aesthetic transformation of watch mechanics into necklaces, rings and bracelets. Antique watch faces are also a feature often accompanied with a mini Eiffel Tower or dear antlers.
Just when you think the sentiment is enough with antique watch mechanics, Aimee says to refurbish the watches before creating her jewellery, she sends her material to a woman in Mexico.
“I try to upcycle as much of my material as possible and then send them to a woman in Mexico who [fixes] them. Its a good way of creating jobs for people there.” she says.
As expected from a name like Hello Mr Badger, Aimee’s pieces are quirky and whimsical, projecting an almost ‘Alice in Wonderland’ like essence.
The name Hello Mr Badger evolved when Aimee took a trip to London and met a lovely resident Badger who she decided to named Mr Badger.
Often meeting in the garde, Aimee and “Mr Badger” would exchanged a quick hello before he scampered off. And the name came about,” Aimee says.
“Hello Mr Badger encourages individualism, thus we endeavour to ensure that each piece of the collection is completely unique.”
Aimee’s new range will be making it’s debut in two weeks time. To see her collections, check out the Hello Mr Badger website.
