Colosoul was lucky enough this year to be granted complete media access to the 2016 Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, and from the beginning we made sure not to miss out on any of the action.
With a speech of relief from a still-employed Colin Barnett and a touching welcome to country by Balladong Noongar Elder Barry McGuire, the Opening Night of TPFF 2016 started with a strong undertone of community and inclusiveness.
The opening shots cited images of the WA landscape with statements about the imaginative ingenuity of the current era. This being the “most exciting time to be alive” set a tone of inventive fashion, of creativity, and a shifting energy that is taking Perth by storm, pushing it forward to the global city destiny it craves.
Where to even start with the fashion? From the romantic simplicity of Flannel to the intricate embroidery of Romance Was Born, every line and label had an elegance that reflected the penultimate event of the Perth fashion calendar.
With the tech backing of a futuristic LED catwalk and enough lights for a Celine Dion Las Vegas show, this year has set the benchmark for Perth’s place on the international fashion stage. The inclusion of a 160° ‘Glam Cam’ brought a bit of LA Award Season glamour to the event attended by the great and glamorous of WA’s social scene.
All we can say is that this year is one to watch. With the event only in its first 24 hours, there is sure to be more excitement, shock and glamour on the way. Stay tuned!
