The VMAs are known for having anything go when it comes to fashion. And of course, all the celebrities who attended brought their best (and their wost).
The Best Dressed:
Britney Spears has graced many worst dressed lists over the years [remember the matching denim outfits she and Justin Timberlake wore to the AMAs in 2001?] Anyway, on this red carpet, she looks amazing in a black asymmetrical dress. With her simple shoes and understated makeup, this outfit is given its opportunity to shine. The daring cut-out slash across her chest gives her dress the perfect edge.
It’s so colourful and features some interesting patterns. It’s definitely not a dress that would suit just anyone, and that’s the beauty of it. It’s super unique and looks amazing on her.
She wears neutral colours, which compliment her skin tone beautifully. The dress is classic, but has some interesting patterns and shows off her great physique.
She looked powerful in a chic black suit, with a lacy bra peeking out from her blazer’s plunging neckline. Her red lipstick added an extra edge to her all-black ensemble. It was an outfit only she could pull off.
The Worst Dressed:
Her naked dress is combined with a feathered neckline, which certainly makes a statement. Honestly though, she looks like Big Bird’s blue cousin, or a bird of prey. Despite the fact that the entire dress is sheer, the only skin visible is on her fingers. The sleeves are too long and the whole thing seems ill fitting. Blue Ivy’s tutu was adorable though!
I don’t even know where to start. He looked as though he was wearing an afghan blanket from his neck, with parts of a blazer glued on. Also why has he got a backpack?
Basically she has just picked three trends — the off-shoulder crop top, flare pants and a choker — and mismatched them to create an outfit. Compared to her elegant red dress at this year’s Grammys, this outfit is very lacking and she doesn’t seem as poised as normal. She gets points for her classic ponytail though!
If you thought in Jared Leto’s absence would miss out on a bizarre outfit this year, you were wrong. Ansel Elgort stepped up to the plate, wearing chains and giant black boots. In fact his entire ensemble was black, save for a confusing maroon pattern on his pants.
She is dressed as though she has come straight from a summer party, where she was pushed into a pool. Her dress is both sheer and short, and I can’t help but feel she should have picked one or the other. With the plunging neckline and one sleeve falling off her shoulder, it all feels a bit much for a red carpet event.
This was a red carpet event, not a Halloween Party.
This outfit featured feathers, fringe, green fur and a naked dress, made complete with a leather jacket and platform shoes. Yes, it’s as confusing as it sounds.
The 80’s called: they want their blazer back.
