Pincho or Pintxo literally means thorn or spike. In Spain, typically in Northern Spain, small bite size snacks are served on toothpicks or skewers at bars for a small sum of money. And that’s what Leederville’s Pinchos does! A Spanish inspired wine and tapas bar, which by the way is fantastically affordable.
Situated in the old Snags and Sons vicinity, Pinchos is the latest brainchild of Justin Bell, the man behind Perth’s favourite buger joint – Jus Burgers. Despite all the cool vibes that Pinchos serves up, it still follows the more traditional footsteps of a classic Spanish food but with a twist of course.
Pinchos menu includes skewered snacks that range between $1-$5; small plates or tapas from $6-$9 and salads for $9 along with various wraps. Larger ‘mixed boards’ that are designed to serve two people are $28 each. And keeping with the homegrown vibe, all the ingredients are locally sourced from suppliers. Some foods are even sourced directly from Spain through Western Australian suppliers to keep up with the authenticity of the restaurant.
And a perfect example of dishes with a twist, you have to try Pincho’s tender lamb meatballs that are sprinkled with dukkah. It definitely may stir up some purists but when the food is delicious, you can put aside some questions and just savor it! And yes, you may be thinking that Pintxos may seem a surprise move after burgers and hotdogs, but Mr Bell is no newbie to Spanish cuisine and that it pretty evident in the food served up at Pinchos!
