For a few years, the excitement has been growing for the new construction in Northbridge and finally after eight years, Northbridge Brewing Company (NBC) adds onto Perth’s cuisine repertoire. Located on the edge of the Piazza on Lake Street, Northbridge Brewing Company is a quite a formidable sight with three levels of steely infrastructure. The bar was constructed using recycled materials, making use of floorboards from Perry Lakes Stadium and giant beams that was salvaged from the former Ford factory.
Master Brewer Ken Arrowsmith – creator of Emu Bitter and former master brewer at The Swan Brewery, has handcrafted the beers brewed at NBC. With 30 years in the industry, Ken jumped on the beer bandwagon to create the Beerland range at NBC. Brewed on site, you can have a pick of Beerland crispy Lager, Wheat Beer, bitter Pale Ale, Dark Mild as well as seasonal varieties. Please note, all these beers are only available at Northbridge Brewing Company. Under the careful watch of Ken, we can expect more seasonal brews to come along our way and join their beer club to learn about the latest offerings and master classes at NBC.
The kitchen is open for business at 8am, with the menu consisting of the pub classics and even classics with a twist. Thinking of classics – steak (from $28), snapper and chips ($26) or even an Angus burger ($16). But my drool worthy food items are the parma ham and peach plank with baked ricotta and rocket ($14) and their house pork pie with a side of pear and cheddar slaw and cauliflower chutney ($16). It has a dense filling but once you cut through that pastry, pork and pear is pretty much a combination made in heaven!
If you’re after something light to get you through that second pint of ale, try their slider options – little hog hoagie with apple and anis slaw ($8 each) or the juicy lucy slider with maple bacon ($8 each). These two definitely seemed to be the crowd pleaser. But if you’re like me, looking for something with a little kick, try out their wasabi prawn sliders with pickled cucumber and wasabi aioli ($8 each) – quite subtle on the palette, it still has the kick you need to bring your taste buds back to life!
NBC is truly an impressive building with onsite brew vats are featured at the street front of the building behind glass. Despite the industrial-feel outside, it’s all about comfort pub feel on the inside. While you do a get a familiar sense of a bar when you settle down at NBC for a drink, the food menu ticks the boxes for comfort pubby food!
