– by Warren Money
Page, Hendrix, Van Halen, Vai – all these names are synonymous with guitar virtuosity. For almost 30 years, Joe Satriani has earned his place amongst those names whether it be as a solo artist or in bands such as Deep Purple or Chickenfoot. From his debut solo album – Not of this Earth to his latest aural spectacular Unstoppable Momentum, Satch as his fans call him, shows jus how versatile he is and he proved it to a packed audience at the Astor Theatre on November 10th.
Tearing up the fretboard with such classics as Ice 9, Flying in a Blue Dream and the crowd favourite, Always With Me, Always with you, Satch delighted and impressed. His new material blended perfectly with the old and it seemed like the man was having fun – the goofy grin never leaving his face the entire night.
Sharing the stage with Satch were long time guitarist/keyboardist Mike Keneally, bassist Bryan Beller and drummer Marco Minneman, world-class musicians in their own right. Satch Boogie brought the house down and for old and new fans, hearing Summer Song live is an experience none will forget. ‘Smokin’ Joe made us feel every note, hear every nuance and drift away to another world, all without leaving our seats.
If you haven’t seen him live, you owe yourself to do anything to go and see a maestro at work. by Warren Money
