With its little signage along Wray Avenue and South Terrace, Who’s Your Mumma is pretty easy to miss, but don’t you dare! This wine bar, with its industrial chic vibes and polished concrete floors, is probably one of the best nightspots in Fremantle. The atmosphere is pretty laidback and definitely is as an excellent post-work spot. There are plenty of reclaimed timber, with mixed styles of long benches and bar-style tables along with outdoor seating. The bar area is lit up with bulbs and naked wires, hence the industrial chic you see.
Recently taken over by Ben Haines and Ben Bell six months ago, Who’s Your Mumma serves up an extensive wine list but it’s the unique cocktails created by crazy friendly staff ticks all the right boxes. They even have their own range of bitters. But the moreish food is what we’re after! The bar menu is short and sweet – you have a choice of European style snacks and share plates. If you’re after something easy yet satisfying, I would highly recommend the nachos with refried beans and everything else that goes with baked corn chips and salsa!
Another dish that I still dream about to this day are the pork buns ($12). The buns are filled with crispy pork belly, hoi-sin sauce, cucumber and chives between softest folds of steamed white dough. It was pretty much a party in my mouth! It was refreshing; the pork was cooked well with crispy skin and as long as there is Siracha chilli sauce anywhere – I am a happy girl! Paired with whiskey and freshly squeezed apple juice, these pork buns are pretty amazing!
Who’s Your Mumma is pretty much what it is – it’s not too young, not too old, and not too hip but just right. Who’s Your Mumma reflects food, wine and culture in a warm and relaxed environment. And a plus point goes to its emphasis on people and conversation. You have to meet Ben Bell, the man behind the bar and amazing drinks and you’ll know why!
