“If you’re religious, you’re going to be upset at the end. Not the end of the show, of your life, when you realise it’s all bullshit.” –Chris Wainhouse.
For comedy lovers, Mojo’s Bar in North Fremantle is where you’ll want to be on the second Tuesday at 8:30pm of each month. Mojo’s monthly comedy show featuring promising local and touring acts is guaranteed to make you laugh, and is well worth the $10 tickets. This past Tuesday the 14th of April held a thoroughly entertaining line-up performing to a packed and eager crowd. MC Ben Darsow is an interactive performer with a penchant for audience inprov, and during the show’s break treated a few lucky crowd members to a drink, joking that it was a peace offering fumbling in earlier parts of his act.
My personal favourites of the night were performances by the likeable Craig Quartermine, and of course, headliner Chris Wainhouse. I’ve seen local comedian Craig, who was recently a WA finalist in the RAW Comedy competition of 2015, perform a couple of times now around Perth, and his dissection of Aussie hip-hop and tongue-in-cheek race jokes guarantee laughter. And no topic is off limits from the witty observational comedy of former RAW Comedy winner, Chris Wainhouse. Focusing much of his material on religion and his personal analysis of the Bible, Chris’ particular brand of comedy is not for the sensitive or easily offended. But for those like myself with a darker sense of humour, I recommend checking out his work.
Previously known as ‘Mojo’s Monthly Comedy’, this event has very recently undertaken a name change to ‘Vulture Culture Comedy Fremantle’, though thankfully the location of Mojo’s Bar remains unchanged. Mojo’s has a laid-back, fun, hipster vibe. If you’re fond of live music and good company, this is a cool hangout for any night of the week. But if you’re one of those rare people who doesn’t enjoy music, there’s still the monthly comedy show, the next of which takes place on Tuesday the 12th of May.
Comedians: MC: Ben Darsow, Headliner: Chris Wainhouse, Matt Storer, Keisha Hill, Bec Charlwood, Dave Cronin, Brad Oakes, Craig Quartermine
