Who doesn’t love a Willie Wagtail? This little socialite-esque bird flicking its tail from side-to-side almost like it’s flirting with you. We often hear these lovely birds in our backyards, chirping away as their soundtracks accompany us throughout our daily routines. You can’t help but stop, look and listen when you see these pretty little creatures. But stumbling upon a café named Willie Wagtail almost seemed too good to be true!
Just like a Willie Wagtail, this down-to-earth café with its unassuming entrance hits all the coffee spots for anyone working hard in the city. Located near the corner of Wellington and William Street, this little gem vibes everything cool. At the same time, you can’t help but feel you’re back home with your grandma who is whipping up a feast in her kitchen!
The now ex-Melbournite, Christina Hazelwood is the brainchild behind Willie Wagtail – or some might even say the mother hen! She is also one of the very few people I have met that are very welcoming and friendly. Combining her love of cooking and coffee, Christina has indeed upped the coffee game in the city. Sporting their own local blend, Willie Wagtail also supports everything local and that even includes filter coffees. And those Slayer Espresso Machines are a slight to behold – check out the installation video of their espresso machines below, you’ll get what I mean!
Just as any good coffee spots should have is food glorious food and the Bacon Bad Boy is about as legit as it gets. Maple bacon layered with smashed roasted apples and smoked mozzarella does sound like a match made in heaven and it definitely is! Look at it! Doesn’t it already make your mouth water? But with salads to boot your healthy side and a good cuppa, seems like the perfect meal for me!
If you’re hankering for something light, just to get you through early mornings, there are homemade muffins, pretty good pastries and even yoghurt-to-go cups. With a super friendly team, quality service plus food that satisfies all your daylight hunger cravings – Willie Wagtail is a place I would even visit just to have it lighten up my day just a tad more!
