Adelaide is filled with hidden gems restaurant wise – and there aren’t many as dazzling as Melt Pizzeria, located both at Hyde Park and in the CBD. I visited the Waymouth Street restaurant for lunch and was enchanted from the moment I stepped through the door.
The relatively small Melt Pizzeria is quite dark, but in no way miserable. Exposed light fixtures keep it from being gloomy and radiate an industrial feel. A bar trails from the entrance to the back of the restaurant, bordered by bar stools coated in green suede, giving a Seventies vibe. Guests are enveloped in a cosy, authentic atmosphere, with soft music playing and delicious scents tantalising senses.
From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with friendly and professional service. The menu is broad, offering pizzas (vegetarian and gluten free options available by the plenty), single and shared tapas, salads, dessert and ‘The Share Table’ – a selection of pizza, tapas and dessert. The restaurant’s pricing is more than fair, with pizzas ranging from $15 – $25 and tapas from $14 – $25.
I eventually decided on The Turk pizza and was not disappointed. The base is light and the toppings perfectly balanced. The Turk is tangy, even a little spicy, balanced by yogurt drizzled over the top. The toppings are extremely generous and the pizza is mammoth sized.
If you’re looking for excellent service and pizza, Melt Pizzeria is definitely worth a visit. They’re open from 12pm until late, serving lunch and dinner every day except Sundays – that’s six days a week that you can have what may be Adelaide’s best pizza.
