Being a little Cheeky

– By Rebecca Harris

Friends, food and drinks in a Melbournian amalgamation of café, bar and restaurant? Yes, please! But does such a place exist? It sure does! Hidden away in the reputable Wolf Lane stands The Cheeky Sparrow. Split into two levels, The Cheeky Sparrow changes persona with the time of day. By day, it’s a placid café, by night, a laid-back bar. The Cheeky Sparrow serves a mixture of food including pizzas, Panini’s, charcuteries, sharing plates and gluten-free and vegetarian options.

The inside was already bustling with business people and friends chatting loudly. We were greeted by one of the friendliest waitresses I had ever met in my life, which made me feel contented and augmented my overall experience.

This sign had me at haloumi and this secured my decision straightaway. However, it took me a while to decide a beverage. I jumped back from soft drinks to cocktails and finally, I narrowed my choices down to two cocktails. After asking for a recommendation from our friendly waitress, I chose the Peach Fireball (peach liqueur, fireball (cinnamon whiskey), ginger ale and lime) ($16).

Once the food arrived, I took my first bite and sip and was thoroughly pleased with my choices. The sandwich was hearty and the pleasant sweetness of the Peach Fireball provided the perfect end-on supplement. The Peach Fireball is probably now one of my favourite cocktails but of course, you can’t have too much of a good thing!

I am yet to sample the laid-back bar at night but for now, I can safely say that The Cheeky Sparrow is one of my top favourite places in Perth to chill out and relax with good friends.
