(Honour Awards, 2016)
Know a member of the LGTBI community who you think deserves some recognition? Well, this might be your chance to get them the attention they deserve!
The Honour Awards have been running annually since 2007 and strives to recognize outstanding service to, and achievements within the diverse LGTBI community.
The awards event itself is organised as a not-for-profit fundraising event for ACON, the leading company for research into HIV prevention, support and all around LGBTI health issues in New South Wales.
Nominations can be filed under nine different categories including HIV-related projects, and health, education, business, community, cultural, legal, media, and political achievements.
In a recent press release, ACON President Dr. Justin Koonin praised the Honour Awards and the messages they spread.
“Every day, people and organisations from right across our community are helping others in all kinds of ways…it’s important that we celebrate our unsung heroes…”
Nominations for the Honour Awards close Sunday 12th August in preparation for the gala awards night which will be held on Wednesday 3rd October at the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney.
All nominations will be judged and four finalists will be announced from each category, with those lucky nominees and their respective nominators invited to attend the evening with tickets to the cocktail party free of charge!
Last year’s winner Elaine Czulkowski described the experience of winning as “overwhelming and emotional,” in a recent press release, and it’s sure to be the same for the nine winners of 2018! Here more from Czulkowski here in last year’s Honour Awards video!
“Volunteers within the LGBTI community do amazing work that really helps change people’s lives,” said Czulkowski, “The Awards is an opportunity for our community to highlight the great work being done and to say thank you to those who do it”
